Q. What are carbon credits?
A. A carbon credit is when one company reduces the amount of carbon dioxide (NOX) spewed into the atmosphere. The credit (reduction),can then be traded to another company.
Q. Where are carbon credits traded?
A. The Chicago Climate Exchange was created to handle trading of this commodity.
Q. Does Acres Of Green Inc., recieve money for carbon credits?
A. No. The contracts are much to big for us to comply with at this time.
Q. Is Acres Of Green reducing the amount of NOX sent into the atmosphere?
A. No. We are increasing the amount of NOX that can be absorbed by rangeland.
Q. Won't it increase the amount of NOX when you manage this land?
A. Yes. The goal is to develope alternative energy devices to manage this land. Of course the land will still absorbe more NOX than produced.
Q. Why use machines instead of livestock to manage this land?
A. Livestock are a good way to remove green grass, but they usually don't like, or won't eat old grass, sage and yucca plants.
Q. Why remove sage and yucca plants?
A. We don't remove them. They are mowed and allowed to grow fresh again. These large plants place carbon deeper than grass and should increase absorbtion rates accordingly.
Q. What is the difference between a carbon credit and your carbon certificate?
A. A carbon credit is a large contract traded much like a stock. Our carbon certificates are a way for the general public to contribute and quickly help reduce atmosphereic gasses.
Q. How much carbon are you planning to reduce in the atmosphere?
A. Our current goal is 1600mt, per year. Of course better management and additional land placed in our system will make the biggest contribution.
Q. If Acres Of Green is harvesting grass for hay, won't that pay for the lands up-keep?
A. No. Only a small part will be harvested for hay and the rest used for mulch. Later more may-be harvested but for now the land is going to be 'built-up'. In a couple years some better land could be harvested for energy.
Q. What other benefits would this management practice have.
A. Locked-up carbon may produce an equal amount of oxygen, when a living plant, grass,-etc. is used. Mowed grass and other plants also make a good mulch. Well managed land should lock-up carbon for decades to come!
